Srinagar, Aug 29 (KNO): The annual Urs at the Makhdoom Sahib Shrine will be observed on Friday, while the nightlong prayers will commence tonight.
The Urs Mubarak of the Sufi Saint, Hazrat Mehboob-ul-Alam Sultan-ul-Arifeen Makhdoomi Shaykh Hamza Kashmiri (Alaihe Rehma), which is usually held during the intervening nights of 23rd and 24th of the Islamic month of Safar, will be held this year on the 29th and 30th of August tonight.
Devotees present at the shrine, speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that at the shrine, the atmosphere is electrified as devotees from different parts of the valley gather where nightlong Shab Khawani will be observed.
Devotees will recite Quran and also Naat Khawani throughout the night.
“For me, the Urs is not a convention; it is a very personal pilgrimage. I come here every year, seek blessings, and find solace,” said Owais Ahmad from Kupwara.
Another believer, Sahil Bhat, who came from Baramulla, shared his attachment to the shrine, saying Hazrat Makhdoom Sahib (RA) has been a source of strength for his family for generations. Being here, especially during special nightlong prayers, fills his heart with thankfulness and hope.
Similarly, the prayers will continue all night with the recitation of holy Quran verses. “These prayers draw us closer to the divine and remind us of the values Hazrat Makhdoom Sahib (RA) stood for: compassion, humility, and faith,” said Abdul Rahim, a local from Karan Nagar, Srinagar.
Notably, the Urs attracts devotees from all over the Valley, who never forget to visit the shrine.
